Lesson learned.

I love Twitter. It reveals a totally new side of people that most have yet to see before. True colors behind the facade they show in real life perhaps? Or maybe it’s the other way around.. People putting up a front on the net and another in real life.. I mean.. If that’s what yall wanna do… Anyway, a number of people were going IN on this #lettertomyex trending topic going on. A lot of the tweets are purely jokes, but many people are coming off as completely bitter exes [and/or birds.. smh].

It made me wonder.. Why is it that we’re so quick to put the blame on everyone else first? Were you the perfect significant other? I doubt it. In my past relationships, I could’ve been a better girlfriend, just as they could’ve been better boyfriends. Let me use my last relationship as an example [the only I really consider to be a 'real' relationship]. 4 years of ups and downs. Pettiness, jealousy, and deceit on both our parts. Maybe it wasn’t so smart to be in a relationship with someone exactly like me. He cheated. I became insecure. I took him back knowing I shouldn’t have which caused a long string of heartache for the both of us.

There are things I’m sure we both wish we could’ve taken back, but the past is the past. I loved him and I’m sure he loved me, so I’m not going to take the time out to bash him. I have too much respect for the good times we did have and learned a lot of things from the bad.

So no, I won’t be one of those bitter exes writing an angry letter about why he eff’d up our relationship because I know it wasn’t all him. I wasn’t perfect. I’ll never be perfect, but I have to take what I learned from that relationship and apply to the next. No need to dwell on what could’ve been or what should have been. I’m more concerned about what’s happening in the present and becoming a better me.

Now.. let’s just hope I don’t mess up the current situation..
