And so it begins

As part of my Day Zero Project list, I’ve decided to partake in answering “50 Questions That Will Free Your Mind”.

Let’s begin (And no, I’m not going to answer them in order).

Question 6: If happiness was the national currency, what kind of work would make you rich?

First of all, I don’t want to be rich. I’d rather be wealthy. Yes, there’s a difference.

A lot of people who know me would probably think I’d say something like ESPN analyst or sports photographer. Yes, I would love to work for ESPN or make a living from photography. I think there’s one thing that outweighs all of that.

If happiness = wealth, then I’d honestly choose to make a career out of being a wife and mother. Call me sappy, I don’t care. There’s nothing that brings me more joy than being loved, being in love, and taking care of the people I love.

A lot of this goes back to my childhood. My parents divorced when I was 5. I never really saw them getting along. Most of the time, even though they were divorced, they spent their energy arguing rather than focusing on taking care of their young daughter. When they weren’t bickering, my father was off working the late shift at the hospital. My mother was working during the day and focusing on whatever dude she was dating.

I’m pretty sure that’s why I’m so gung-ho on being a better spouse and parent than my parents were. I don’t want to have to put my children through a bitter divorce like I had to go through as a child. To me, that took away from a lot of the love I felt like I was missing and probably the reason I’m all about love now.

Don’t get it twisted. I’m not in a rush to get married or have children. I just turned 22 and I’ve barely made my mark on the world. I just know when I take my vows, I really do mean forever. And when I’m popping out my 3 kids, they aren’t going to have to yearn for the love and attention I was missing.

Oh wait.. this was supposed to be about money right? Right.. If the happiness I would get from being a wife and mother brought me wealth, well.. call me Carlos Slim.
